Tech Valley Comm. seeks new home - Business Review

Tech Valley Communications, which is headquartered in Albany, will consolidate its warehouse, data center and office operations to one location this year.

Kevin O'Connor, founder and CEO, said two of the fiber optic company's leases in downtown Albany will expire this year. He's hoping to trim expenses and a streamline operations by finding one location for office staff, utility trucks, fiber optic reels and his data centers.

The company which manages 450 miles of fiber optic lines from Catskill to Saratoga Springs, spends nearly $100,000 a year to provide employee parking in downtown Albany.

"We'd like to stay downtown, but I'm not sure that will be possible," O'Connor said. "Finding one place here will be tough."

His company, which expects to expand its fiber optic network and add employees this year, currently employs 60 workers. The company generated a little more than $15 million in 2010, O'Connor said.

The CEO said he's looking at locations in Albany and surrounding communities.

Tech Valley Communications was founded in 1999. The company generates revenue by selling telecommunications services to large and mid-sized commercial customers such as hospitals, law firms and other businesses.
